The Bible

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)

Why a Candlelight Service?

No one really knows how candles came to be associated with Christmas.

But in the Bible, Jesus is often compared with light, giving us spiritual illumination. The Gospel of John starts by describing Jesus as a light shining in the darkness:

In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

John 1:4-5 (NIV)

Later on in the Gospel of John, Jesus said that he was the light:

"I am the light of the World. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

John 8:12 (NIV)

Are you walking your life in the light of Jesus?
