Trevor Woodget is involved in local schools on Brighton Hill and
Hatch Warren. Apart from taking school assemblies he has also been trained
and accredited by Bible Explorer as one of their team of presenters.
The Bible is a mystery to most people: 779,692 words, 72 hours to read, 66
books (39 Old Testament, 27 New Testament). Where do you start?
Bible Explorer is an educational programme that is taught exclusively in
schools. We teach RE lessons in accordance with the Locally Agreed
Syllabus and individual schemes of work. Bible Explorer aims to inform
school children aged 9-11 years old (Key Stage 2) to enable them to discover
the Bible for themselves. We do not preach or try to convert, but simply
teach the storyline - the BIG PICTURE - of the Bible.
Bible Explorer is a teaching programme that presents the story of the Old and
New Testament of the Bible to children in Primary Schools. The Old and the
New Testament presentations each last for 5 sessions of one hour, and are
exclusively intended as an educational aid for Y5/Y6 children.
What People Say about Bible Explorer
Her Majesty's Inspectors:
Regularly scored BX in the "excellent
category". One of their reports said it is "what teaching is all about".
A child said:
"you've made the Bible such fun!"
RE Coordinators say:
"Brilliant"
"Never seen anything like it"
Teachers:
amazed by it
Format
Bible Explorer gives an overview of the whole book. It covers the
whole story line of the Old and New Testament by interacting with the
children in a number of ways:
- Showing it - using OHPs video, hand signs, imagination, artefacts
- Telling it - with stories
- Acting it - involving children in drama role play props
- Reading it - using work sheets
- Using key words and hand-signs to aid remembering important stories and
events
- Using imagination - room is laid out as a map around which we walk as the
stories are told.
- Activity work sheets for each session which reinforce the teaching given
in each session. We ask the school to copy these for each child.
At the end of a presentation each pupil can receive a Bible Explorer
Certificate showing how they have completed the course. This may be
presented in a school assembly and it gives the children an opportunity to
show the rest of the school what they have learned.
Bible Explorer links into the RE Curriculum in many ways.
