First Steps was formed in 1988 and has gained an excellent reputation over that time. Some of the parents who now attend came as toddlers themselves. This group is not just for mothers but for all carers. Whether you are a parent, a grandparent or childminder, or anyone else with responsibility for a baby or toddler, you are most welcome.

Activities Include

First Step Logo - pair of baby footprints
  • play
  • story time
  • singing
  • arts & craft
  • The Nest breast feeding support group (see below)

All are welcome no matter what their ethnic background, social status, ability/disability or religion.

Tea, coffee and friendly company is available for all.

Aims

baby
  • To provide a safe and stimulating environment within a Christian framework for babies and toddlers where they can learn to socialise with other children and adults.
  • To provide a friendly and comfortable, low cost meeting place for the carers of young children, where they can relax and make new friends.
  • To form and nurture relationships with families from Brighton Hill and the local area.
  • To have the opportunity of improving our own relationships and learning new skills, as we work together as a team.

The Nest

Breast Feeding Support Group

The Nest is part of First Steps. A qualified Breastfeeding Network Supporter, who is part of the First Steps team, is present to offer information and support for breastfeeding Mums and Mums-to-be.

The Breastfeeding Network (BfN) aims to be an independent source of support and information for breastfeeding women and others:

  • Promote breastfeeding and a greater understanding thereof.
  • Collect and disseminate information on breastfeeding and baby and infant nutrition.
  • Provide information and support to parents on the feeding of babies and infants.
